Lisa joined Sullivan Festeryga on her call to the bar in 2005. Her unfettered enthusiasm for insurance defence did not go unrecognized by the partners nor clients; it was clear that she had an aptitude for insurance defence work, particularly accident benefits.
Having grown up on the family farm Lisa is no stranger to hard work. She completed her undergraduate degree in Iowa with the final semester spent in Chicago. She then worked in customer service for a few years, giving her knowledge of transportation by truck and rail throughout Canada. Lisa followed that up by attending law school at Western University where she participated in an exchange program at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. After articling with a firm in Brantford Ontario, Lisa found herself in Hamilton with Sullivan Festeryga.
Her thorough understanding of the legal issues is complimented by strong negotiation skills aimed at resolving matters as efficiently as possible for those involved. When settlement cannot be reached, Lisa is prepared to advance her clients’ interests through the established channels. She has successfully represented clients at trials, motions and appeals at all levels of court in Ontario and has represented clients in accident benefits cases both at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and at the License Appeal Tribunal.
The bar in Hamilton is second to none and Lisa enjoys the collegial atmosphere and, as a member, attends the many events put on by the Hamilton Law Association and the Hamilton Lawyers’ Club. Relationships developed between lawyers are often vital to helping their clients reach settlement in complex matters. Lisa is also a Director of Canadian Defence Lawyers and sits on various committees. She is also a member of the Executive of the Hamilton Medical Legal Society.
Lisa enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family; which includes a precocious toddler and two crazy dogs. She loves to travel, has a hankering for great food, is always willing to try new wines, and dips her toe into online shopping from time to time. She enjoys summer weekends in her backyard oasis.
